Ground Referencing Night Time Light Imagery—How Critical Is It to Conduct the Measurements at the Same Time the Image Is Acquired?
You are already at the latest version With the increasing availability of high-resolution (< 50m) space borne night time light imagery, it is now becoming more feasible to examine the correspondence between space borne and ground based measurements of night lights. However, so far there were very few studies that conducted a ground-based campaign of night time brightness measurements during the overpass of a night light sensitive satellite.

Sensors | Free Full-Text | Quantifying the Variability of Ground Light Sources and Their Relationships with Spaceborne Observations of Night Lights Using Multidirectional and Multispectral Measurements
1. Introduction Quantifying human activity from space and understanding its spatial and temporal patterns is one of the main challenges we are facing as the world’s population is becoming more urban [1]. Remote sensing of night lights is now recognized as one of the key approaches for observing anthropogenic activity, and the number of available satellites which enable us to measure night-time lights is growing constantly, along with their uses [2,3].

Constructing a Comprehensive National Wildfire Database from Incomplete Sources: Israel as a Case Study
Abstract : In many regions, the frequency and extent of wildfires has increased in recent years, a trend which is expected to continue. Hence, there is a need for effective fire management strategies. Such strategies need to be based on accurate and complete data on vegetation condition and post-fire effects, collected in the field as well as by remote sensing approaches.

More COPS, less crime☆ Author links open overlay panelSteven Mello Show more Highlights • Recovery Act grants to local police departments increased police forces. • Each additional police officer prevented 4 violent crimes and 15 property crimes. • On average, the social value of a marginal police officer exceeds $300,000. • Impacts on crime were largest in areas most affected by the Great Recession. Abstract I exploit a natural experiment to estimate the causal effect of police on crime.

Long-term exposure to traffic-related air pollution and cancer among survivors of myocardial infarction: A 20-year follow-up study
Previous studies suggested a carcinogenic effect of exposure to traffic-related air pollution. Recently, higher rates of cancer incidence were observed among myocardial infarction survivors compared with the general population. We examined the association between chronic exposure to nitrogen oxides, a proxy measure for traffic-related air pollution, and cancer incidence and mortality in a cohort of myocardial infarction patients.
