Covered bridges of the Catskills: You’ve never seen New York like this (video)
I remember the first time I was introduced to covered bridges, it was watching the cartoon “Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad,” and the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow tossed his flaming pumpkin head through Sleepy Hollow’s bridge to try and end the irascible teacher. Growing up in North Carolina, I never saw any covered bridges myself, so they became iconic to me as symbols of the Northeast. New York, the home of Washington Irving’s titular tale, is the best place to start.

Wolcott, N.Y.–– Despite fluctuating weather conditions this month, apple blossoms across Central New York didn’t disappoint. Trees were blossoming across the 1,000-acre expanse of Fowler Farms just off Lake Ontario, although the show didn’t last long. A few chilly nights stopped the whole orchard range from blooming all at once, and just as they synched together, a Saturday storm blew through and took many of the blooms away. Weather is often a challenge for apple growers this time of year.
