Some people might say Ohio is better known for cornfields and professional sports than it is for state parks, but as a lifelong Ohioan who spends most of her free time outdoors, let me tell you: We have some seriously incredible nature here. And the gems in my backyard are finally getting the recognition they deserve. In September 2025, the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and the National Recreation and Park Association awarded the state a gold medal. What does it mean?
