1 INTRODUCTION Phagocytosis is a fundamental defence mechanism that triggers inflammatory and immunological responses and plays a crucial role in bridging innate and adaptive immunity against invading pathogens (Lee et al., 2020; Lim et al., 2017). Professional phagocytes such as macrophages and neutrophils use a variety of innate immunity strategies to identify and eliminate intruders within bacteria-containing phagosomes.
