Lucas Pinheiro Braathen will take the spotlight again on Monday (16 February) as he attempts to add to his giant slalom gold medal with victory in the slalom. Among those out to prevent a second-ever Winter Olympics gold for Brazil will be close friend and former Norway teammate Atle Lie McGrath, who is top of the World Cup slalom standings just above Braathen.

But a skier who is not only the best all-rounder in the world but a master of three disciplines was left without a single gold at Milano Cortina 2026 after Lucas Pinheiro Braathen denied the Swiss the defence of his Giant Slalom title in Bormio on Saturday (14 February). Odermatt was second behind the Brazilian after the first run on the Stelvio.

Winter Olympics 2026: Braathen in pole position to seal Brazil's medal dream in Giant Slalom

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen put himself in a great position to secure Brazil's first-ever Winter Olympics medal as he finished almost a second faster than Marco Odermatt in Run 1 of the men's Giant Slalom in Bormio on Saturday (14 February). The 25-year-old may become the latest skier to deny Odermatt a gold medal on the Stelvio at these Games, after posting a time of 1:13.92. Swiss star Odermatt is the defending gold medallist and was +0.95 seconds behind the Brazilian.
