2015 - Community Service
Perry was awarded the community service plaque by the National Newspaper Association in 2015 for his bulldog reporting about criminal justice woes of Southeast Oklahoma. Perry documented multiple costly mistakes made by the district attorney's office and the courts that made the residents less safe. Perry's reporting led to the paper calling for the resignation of the district attorney.

2015 - Reporter of the Year
Perry was named reporter of the year by CNHI for his coverage of the criminal justice system in Southeast Oklahoma and for his coverage of city government in the county. Perry developed a rural community beat to document the woes small towns in the area were going through, along with bringing issues that needed to be discussed into the public's eye.

2014 - Team Investigative
A first place award for an investigation that was first discovered by Perry and aided by James Beaty and Glenn Puit. The News-Capital investigated a traffic stop conducted by a McAlester police officer and discovered he let a drunk woman drive away from the stop with a child in the -- this despite a BOLO having been sent out by McAlester police. The News-Capital's reporting led to the termination of the officer. Further, the News-Capital investigation discovered the city had postponed the officers termination just long enough for that officer to receive retirement benefits. Perry played a large role -- including multiple single bylines -- in every article that was published and submitted for this award.
Oklahoma Press Association Sequoyah Award
2014 - Best Overall Newspaper
The McAlester News-Capital earned the Sequoyah Award in 2014 for best overall newspaper in Division 2 in Oklahoma. The newspaper won multiple 'events' including news content and community leadership on its way to claiming the overall prize. Perry had many bylines in the submissions and was a lead staff writer having wrote the second most articles for the paper that year.

2015 - 6 second place awards
Perry was honored in 2015 by the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalist and the Oklahoma Associated Press with six second place awards for his criminal justice and business reporting.

2014 - Team Investigative
A 3rd place award, Perry discovered the county sheriff's son's pending felony charges had been lost track of by the district attorney's office. Perry did all the reporting for the story, and editor Glenn Puit wrote the story on a hard deadline. The submission earned the two a third place award.
