States are disagreeing on whether the EPA should give water systems more time to comply with Biden-era drinking water limits for two specific PFAS. Some states and organizations representing them are raising concerns about their authority and the potential loss of needed federal funds due to the delay. Dozens of diverse trade associations have asked three federal agencies to end duplicative chemical rules that confuse workers and employers. The American Chemistry Council and a coalition of 75 other organizations sent a letter dated Monday to the Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Office of Management and Budget asking them to establish a single, consistent federal framework for worker chemical safety.

New York Seeks Comment on Rules to Treat Liquid Landfill Waste

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is inviting comment on what it says would be the nation’s first rules requiring landfills to treat emerging contaminants in the leachate they generate. The proposed rules aim to minimize the reintroduction of contaminants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 1,4-dioxane into the environment, the DEC said in materials posted on the rulemaking’s website.
