• March 2002-Feb. 2008: AFP in Miami. Covered Latin America, the Caribbean and the southeastern United States, as well as assignments elsewhere. Coverage included Hurricane Katrina, unrest in Haiti, conflict in Venezuela, elections in Latin America, the hunt for Saddam Hussein, the siege of Fallujah and the Michael Jackson trial.
• 1998-2002: AFP in Mexico City. Covered Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as other assignments. Coverage included the 2000 US election debacle, Hurricane Mitch, the financial crisis in Argentina and the fall of Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori.
• 1996-1998: Copy editor with AFP in Washington DC. Responsible for handing out copy-editing assignments and editing copy from across the Americas. Translated reports from French and Spanish.
• 1994-1996: Copy editor with United Press International (UPI) in Washington DC. Edited copy from around the world.
• 1989-1994: UPI bureau chief in Germany. Coverage included German unification and assignments elsewhere, including the Gulf War and OPEC negotiations.
• 1985-1988: Reporter with UPI in Nairobi, covering eastern and central Africa. Covered the famine in the Horn of Africa and conflicts in Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Burundi and Uganda.
• 1984-1985. Freelance reporter in Nairobi covering the region for Time magazine, The Daily Telegraph, the Christian Science Monitor, UPI and the German news agency DPA.
• 1982-1983: TV news producer with ARD German TV based in Johannesburg. Researched news and feature reports from southern Africa.
