When a Cyberattack Succeeds: What the Best Responses Get Right
The recent TruStage cyber incident underscores an important reality for credit unions: Even well-resourced organizations can fall victim to sophisticated cyberattacks. While the facts of this specific incident will continue to emerge over time, the event serves as a valuable reminder that cybersecurity is not defined solely by preventing attacks. A cyber incident may mark the end of one chapter, but an organization's response often defines the next.
Eclipse LMOS: Launching AI Agents Across Europe at Breakneck Speed
The article describes the journey of creating a multi-agent platform, a Language Model Operating System (LMOS), which was developed to solve the challenge of deploying LLM-powered applications for highly distributed scenarios with localized constraints. Initially built upon JVM-based tooling, the platform leverages concurrency constraints and the need for domain-specific languages (DSLs) using Kotlin.
Prayers for Pacific Palisades
Like President Jimmy Carter, Pacific Palisades recently celebrated its 100th birthday. Founded to be a religious paradise by a dedicated group of churchmen, it succumbed this week to one of the worst urban fires in the history of the United States. In just twenty-four hours, high winds wiped out nearly half of all the homes and razed both the local Catholic and Methodist churches.
A Crisis in Paradise
The tropical paradise of Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique, is the scene of a conflict that has forced nearly a million people from their homes. The region has attracted attention for its natural resources: gold, rubies, graphite, and natural gas. Since 2017, Islamic militant groups under the name al-Shabaab have fought against Mozambican and foreign security forces from Rwanda, South Africa, and other nations.

Yes, COVID misinformation should be stopped but not at the expense of scientific inquiry
Vaccines are one of the most important medical innovations to protect populations from diseases and infections, and we should be wary of doctors who spread harmful and incorrect information. But fact-checking requires objective facts to check. In the medical, biological and behavioral sciences, inconsistent findings are expected and differences of opinion are commonplace. New evidence can turn commonly accepted medical practices and beliefs on their head.
Conservative Bishops’ Attack on Biden Is an Attack on the Majority of U.S. Catholics
After some Republican-leaning bishops condemned John Kerry, the Catholic presidential candidate in 2004, for his support of abortion rights, Senator Ted Kennedy organized an off-the-record meeting of 20 bishops and Catholic senators. He recalled later how genteel his Senate colleagues had been, but the feeling was not mutual.
Wafer-scale graphene quality assessment using micro four-point probe mapping
Micro four-point probes (M4PP) provide rapid and automated lithography-free transport properties of planar surfaces including two-dimensional materials. We perform sheet conductance wafer maps of graphene directly grown on a 100 mm diameter SiC wafer using a multiplexed seven-point probe with minor additional measurement time compared to a four-point probe. Comparing the results of three subprobes we find that compared to a single-probe result, our measurement yield increases from 72%–84% to 97%.

Signing Git Commits
on May 16, 2019 Protect your code commits from malicious changes by GPG-signing them. Often when people talk about GPG, they focus on encryption—GPG's ability to protect a file or message so that only someone who has the appropriate private key can read it. Yet, one of the most important functions GPG offers is signing.

Game Review: Lamplight City
A well lit look into Grundislav Games' latest release. The universe of Lamplight City is rich, complex and oddly familiar. The game draws on that ever-popular theme of a steampunk alternative universe, adding dashes of Victorian squalor and just a pinch of 1950's detective tropes. Is it just a mishmash of clichés then? Yes, but it all works well together to form a likable and somewhat unique universe—like a cheesy movie, you can't help but fall in love with Lamplight City.

Gaza trip reveals daily struggles that families, doctors endure
Traveling to Tel Aviv, I sought out a pharmacy to obtain for my son, Olivier, some melatonin, a natural supplement that helps with jet lag and is widely available without a prescription in the United States. I discovered that, though it has no adverse side effects, melatonin requires a prescription in Israel that must come from an Israeli doctor; the pharmacist would not provide it to a physician like me from abroad.
Goodness & Greatness
Last June, when President Donald Trump met President Vladimir Putin for the first time, much was made of the parallels between the two leaders. Along with their nationalist tendencies, personal boastfulness, and carefully crafted cults of personality, both have rooted their rhetoric in promises to make America or Russia great again.
MLB trade rumors: Tigers’ Ian Kinsler is already on the trade block
Despite an impressive summer firesale by general manager Al Avila, the Detroit Tigers are still sitting on one more obvious trade piece: second baseman Ian Kinsler. And after a full season of shopping the second baseman, he’s the hot topic for the team at the general manager meetings that kicked off this week. The Tigers will be in no rush to make a move, according to Avila.
Lance Parrish will manage the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2018
The Detroit Tigers have finally announced their choices to lead the farm system, and it’s a list of familiar names. Even the lone newcomer has some experience in Detroit, as well as deep ties to Ron Gardenhire and the Minnesota Twins’ organization. The most familiar name on the list is Lance Parrish, who, after spending the last four seasons as manager for Double-A Erie, is being moved to manage Class A West Michigan. West Michigan’s current manager, Mike Rabelo, is heading to High-A Lakeland.
Detroit Tigers News: Postseason Justin Verlander returns
It was Jose Altuve who stole the headlines with the 10th three home run game in postseason history. But it was the vintage Justin Verlander performance that is giving Tigers fans a lift on this Friday morning. This wasn’t the most impressive postseason outing for Verlander. He wasn’t lights out and only struck out three. But with a lineup as deep as Houston’s, Verlander provided exactly what the Astros needed. Verlander’s decision to move to Houston was not an easy one.
Detroit Tigers News: A Tigers fan’s rooting guide to the playoffs
With the No. 1 draft pick secured, Detroit Tigers fans can sit back and take in the 2017 MLB playoffs with a little more joy. Sure, their team didn’t even approach the dance, but at least they aren’t stuck in mediocrity anymore. Now the question becomes who to root for in October? MLive’s Evan Woodberry does a lot of the groundwork by highlighting the 15 former Tigers that are in the playoffs, but allow me to provide my two cents. In reverse order: 8.
Detroit Tigers News: Brad Ausmus was the wrong manager at the wrong time
Two narratives have emerged after the firing, or, more formally, the letting go of Brad Ausmus. The first is that he was too inexperienced. The second, that he was never the right fit. I blame this failed experiment on the latter. Ausmus was never a good choice for the team, the fan base, or the media. After Jim Leyland, it seemed like a logical choice to bring in a fresh face.
Detroit Tigers News: Joe Jimenez remains confident despite struggles
Like many Detroit Tigers, Joe Jimenez has struggled mightily in 2017. While he has been lights-out with Toledo, he’s given up 19 runs in 13 1? innings in Detroit. Those are Francisco Rodriguez-like numbers — certainly not the debut that Jimenez was hoping for during his first two stints in the majors. There has been a lot of talk about Jimenez’s dip in velocity possibly contributing to his struggles.
Detroit Tigers News: A trade rumor round-up
The chances that this changes from the the time I write it to the time you read it are high, but here is a round-up of all the latest Detroit Tigers rumors: Note that the site has a running update page for each of the likely trade candidates, and be sure to stick to Twitter for real-time news. Did you know you can write for BYB? Yes, you! Whenever you want. It’s called a FanPost and it’s a way you can make your voice heard on the website. You can find instructions here.
Throwing out the Boy Scouts, N.D. bishop hurts, not protects youth
In the same week that Pope Francis spoke publicly about offering a new welcome back to the Church for remarried Catholics and their children, a bishop in North Dakota was offering a message of a different kind.
Tigers' David Price destroys writer Lynn Henning for comment about dedication to team
The MLB trade deadline might be uneventful so far, but the hot takes on the Tigers' struggles aren't. For some context, as David Price was removed from Thursday's game, he did not hand the ball to Brad Ausmus. Instead he began his walk back to the dugout early as Nick Castellanos performed the duty on his behalf. The exchange can be seen at about the 1:27 mark below.
Detroit Tiger Links: Al Avila has some serious questions to answer
It’s been less than two years in the managerial hot seat for General Manager Al Avila, but this feels like a make or break season. The team has an aging roster, a shrinking payroll, and the questions starting to pile up. Not all of those signings are his fault. Whether it’s Anibal Sanchez’s contract size or the addition of Justin Upton, who actually seems like a decent signing so far. But Mike Pelfrey, Mark Lowe and now K-Rod are 15 million dollars in sunk costs with little value.
Michael Fulmer without a beard will freak you out
The mysterious powers of facial hair strike again. Michael Fulmer has been rocking a beard not only since he joined the Tigers, but for most of his professional baseball life. Apparently he had a sudden change of heart. Johnny Kane, Fox Sports Detroit correspondent and possible Bond villain, broke it down Monday night: While I find a lot of the in-between play fluff pieces silly, I don’t blame the FSD crew for spotlighting this grooming change. I legitimately would not have recognized him.
A pilgrim’s reflection on the Feast of the Assumption
Since at least the fourth century, August 15 has been commemorated in Catholic churches as the Feast of the Assumption, in the belief that the Virgin May was bodily “assumed” into heaven at her death. In the 1950s, Pope Pius XII defined the Assumption as dogma, one of the few times papal infallibility has ever been invoked.
The Tigers introduce the clubhouse version of rock paper scissors
There is a new game that is sweeping the Tigers clubhouse. It is "locker room rock paper scissors." The game is a remake on the classic with a very important twist. Enter the five-gallon water bottle. That ... couldn't have felt good. Certainly not a small wind up from Ian Kinsler, who has taken to casually rocking his Omar Vizquel Tiger shirt. Also, that's a terrible matchup for Jose Iglesias. You know Kinsler is a master at all "big brother" games. He was always destined to get BOPPED.
Willie Horton would rather do anything else other than watch Mike Pelfrey pitch
During today's game, Detroit Tigers announcers Mario Impemba and Kirk Gibson were discussing attending games when they were younger and Willie Horton's name came up. As broadcasts do, they panned to Willie in the stands. Let's just say he is really enjoying another stellar Mike Pelfrey performance. Usually this is where I make fun of the person for sleeping at a sporting event but at this point I'd encourage doing anything other than watching Pelfrey labor through five-plus innings.
Tigers' Miguel Cabrera to release "Miggy Hat"
If you can't hit like Miggy, you might as well dress like him. The Tigers might be struggling but Miguel Cabrera's brand is still strong. The Tigers' All Star will reveal his new "Miggy Hat" at a private event in Ferndale on May 19th. $200 will get you into the door for food, drinks, a meet and greet with Miggy and one of his hats. The design combines an M for Miguel with a crown to signify his 2012 Triple Crown. The event is the only way to get the hats until distribution is finalized.
The Tao of Norris
The wisdom of Van Life passed on to the common man When snooping around the stadium long after the players had left, as is my tradition, an important discovery was made. In the waste bin outside the locker room was a small notebook. Dusty, ripped, and smelling of smoke, it certainly appeared to be trash. But not to an experienced blogger. I was drawn to the notebook, and not just due to my astute journalistic instinct. The aura of the tattered booklet was overwhelming.
Daniel Norris flawlessly combines Pharrell's hat, Grizzly Adams' beard, and Jamba Juice
