Attorneys General in Iowa and 17 other states sued the three companies — Cal-Maine Foods Inc., Hickman’s Egg Ranch Inc., and Centrum Valley Holdings LLC/Versova Holdings LLC — accusing owners of working together to inflate egg prices. Centrum/Versova is largely based in Iowa.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Details about why a high-level state employee was fired more than a month ago are being revealed. The acting head of the Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System, known as IPERS, fired chief benefits officer Steven Herbert on May 7, 2026. According to his termination letter, a personnel investigation into Herbert found that he violated state policies and the corresponding Iowa/administrative code.
