Why did you become a journalist?

I like to write.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Editor.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Investigating political corruption in Union City, N.J. as a cub reporter, 1978-1979.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

If you wanna do this, you gotta wanna, that is, you're ready to put in the hard work to do it. If you're ready for that, take a shot.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime via email.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

When poetry was submitted for publication in a daily newspaper that never published poetry.

What's your favorite drink?

Black coffee.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

New Yorker.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That no one cares about religion news.
