In recent years, my stories have examined the intersections between everyday culture and future possibilities. I've considered the future of local food; what happens when cities catch "startup fever"; how illegal animal trafficking is facilitated by consumer fitness gadgets; and how certain Islamic internet radio stations are aiming to be "NPR for Muslims."

What was your first job as a journalist?

I'd say my first "real" story was covering illegal fox trafficking in Virginia. The foxes are chased by dogs in a fenced enclosure, for sport

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes!

How is social media changing news?
