The venue was switched late in the week to Thomas Davis GAC, Corrinshego, just sitting above Newry close to the A1 bypass. Not a tradional hurling venue, in fairness the club volunteers and stewards have to be congratulated for preparing the pitch and going out of their way to host the game with even a piper playing Amhrán na bhFiann before the throw-in.

Louth manager Reel acknowledges Kildare deserved to win

Last Saturday Gavin Devlin’s side were beaten by Dublin in the Leinster Senior Football Championship semi-final but the U20s, playing in their third final in-a-row, were favourites. However, like their senior counterparts, Louth didn’t get going and struggled in midfield where Kildare dominated. They were the better side over the 60 minutes, and deserving winners as Reel acknowledged after the game. “If I'm totally honest, I thought they were a better team,” said Reel.

The signs were there - Dublin apparently struggling and Louth, the Leinster champions with their tails up after a good league showing.
