A Weather Impact Alert has been issued for Monday. We are expecting storms and a few could produce damaging winds. Widespread thunderstorms are expected to push through the area. The greatest threat will be strong, damaging wind gusts. Storms will also produce heavy rain and dangerous lightning. Most of the storms should be near the coast by Monday evening, leading to a quieter Monday night.

Watching the Gulf: Could low pressure bring rain and gusty winds

NEW ORLEANS — A weak area of low pressure will try to form in the northern Gulf and send tropical moisture into the region later this week. Rain chances will climb Friday through the weekend as that moisture spreads across Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi. Not every day will be a washout but expect passing showers and downpours. Some rain could be heavy at times, leading to street flooding and river flooding since the ground remains saturated from May's heavy rain.
