Our journey to hospitality technology Nirvana
Hotel technology has seen some amazing progress – though it may seem to be in a state of chaos at the moment, writes Pete Simpson. In this article, he makes a compelling case for coming together to build an “Enterprise Hospitality Framework” that would allow the industry to extend the hospitality eco-system beyond the confines of the hotel, and deliver amazing, targeted, data-driven recommendations and offers to customers.
Wyoming Legislature must find clear vision, pragmatic approach | WyoFile
Historian and former University of Wyoming vice president for institutional advancement Peter Simpson retired from that post in 1997, but remained at UW where he taught political science for many years. Simpson represented Sheridan County in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1981-1984. He was the Republican nominee for governor of Wyoming in 1986. Needed now: Thoughtful watchdogs over Wyoming’s integrity | WyoFile
Sometimes, if I’m going to chair this forum, it seems I have to say a few things myself. So here are some of my thoughts as we look back on this election season, prepare for a legislative session and, I propose, a serious discussion of what’s next for us as a state. I was elected to the state Legislature decades ago, as a representative in the House. I was a total “greenhorn.” The senior member of the Sheridan County delegation was a senator, Dr. Fen Downing.
How do we fix Wyoming’s tax structure? | WyoFile
Once again, Wyoming faces tough times; once again, we have to figure out how to pay for the services we use and need and want. A budget has two sides, revenue and expenditures; a budget crunch has two sides too — revisiting the revenue structure, along with cutting spending. Today we bring you a tale of two Wyoming House Revenue Committee chairmen. John Hines was chairman in the year 2000, when we faced another bust and with it a budget crunch; Mike Madden is chairman today.
Employers have to be the change-agents in health care | WyoFile
Health-care costs and health-care insurance are on people’s minds in Wyoming. In late July, this forum hosted two writers on the pros and cons of Medicaid expansion. Their essays prompted more people to comment — and their comments made it clear that Medicaid expansion is only a piece of the puzzle that is frustrating us in Wyoming, where the numbers say we pay more for health insurance and more for health care than most other folks in the country.
1776 sermon for Wyoming politics, in 2016
I’m writing today as Charles Thompson, Secretary of the 2nd Continental Congress. I became Thompson in the production of the musical “1776″ that people from across the Bighorn Basin (pulled together by my real-life wife Lynne) performed in Cody over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. There’s a certain appropriateness to me being Charles Thompson in that Thompson, like me, was a historian.
