Tim O'Neill remembers the phone call all too well. "It was 8 o'clock on a Tuesday night, letting me know that I definitely did have prostate cancer at the very young age of 41," he said. He knew just how serious the call was. His father had died of the disease. That was the reason he'd had a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test in the first place. "Your world stops, you know. I was a young father of four very young kids," he said.

When Shirley-Anne Gardiner broke three bones in her back, she was all too aware of the physical journey ahead of her. She had spent two decades working in public health, including years as the executive director of the Toowoomba hospital, and health care was her life. So it came as a surprise when one of the key parts of her recovery arrived in an unexpected place — the murals splashed across the CBD laneways of her home town of Toowoomba.
