Es war ein Jahr unfreiwilliger Pause nach dem großen Brand im Spiellokal. Nun hatte der ESV Lok Meiningen aber endlich wieder zum Schnellschachturnier eingeladen. Die Veranstaltung wurde aufgewertet, da es nicht nur um den großen Wanderpokal ging, es wurde auch parallel um den Titel des Thüringer Einzelmeisters im Schnellschach gerungen. Dass bei 64 Spielern der Teilnehmerrekord nicht geknackt werden konnte, war angesichts der hohen Temperaturen auch im Spielsaal nicht wirklich verwunderlich.
Time-of-flight neutron radiography for differentiating ice and water during phase transitions in natural porous media
Abstract Measurement of coexistent liquid water and ice distributions is useful for many materials and systems such as fuel cells, concrete, snow, and soil. Energy-resolved neutron imaging is a promising technique for these measurements by exploiting differences in neutron cross-section between ice and water at cold neutron energies. Until now, energy-resolved neutron imaging techniques have only been used with relatively thin and non-natural samples.
Early cAMP signaling orchestrates single-cell synchronicity throughout Dictyostelium development - Communications Biology
Abstract Synchronicity is observed in many biological systems, including development, as seen in vertebrate body axis formation, fly eye development, and development of the social amoeba D. discoideum. Despite its prevalence, quantitative analyses of synchronicity at the single-cell level remain rare. Here we show that synchronicity in D. discoideum is mediated by early cAMP signaling.

Abstract Greenbeards facilitate cooperation by encoding a perceptible signal, the ability to detect it, and a tendency to help others that display it. Falsebeards are hypothetical cheaters that display the signal without being altruistic. Despite many examples of greenbeards, evidence for falsebeards is scarce. The Dictyostelium discoideum tgrB1-tgrC1 allorecognition pathway encodes a greenbeard.

Drainage mechanisms in porous media: From piston-like invasion to formation of corner flow networks
Water drainage from porous media is a highly dynamic process often marked by rapid piston-like air invasion events at the front and other rapid interfacial reconfigurations. Liquid phase entrapped behind the moving front drains at significantly slower rates often via gravity driven flow through corners and crevices. This distribution of slowly draining residual water phase determines the plant available water and biological functioning of soils.
Drainage dynamics controlled by corner flow: Application of the foam drainage equation
In fast drainage processes water is retained behind the front, defining the plant available water and hydraulic properties of the unsaturated region. In this study we show that the foam drainage equation (FDE) can be applied to predict macroscopic drainage dynamics behind the front because a network of liquid channels controls the liquid flow in both foams and crevices of the pore space.
