Abstract It is often assumed that phenotypic heterogeneity in autism reflects underlying pathobiological variation. However, direct evidence supporting this link is lacking. Leveraging cross-species functional neuroimaging, we show that brain dysconnectivity patterns in autism can be parsed into biologically dissociable subtypes.
