Abstract Photo-crosslinkable gelatin-based hydrogels hold great promise for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. However, monitoring these hydrogels in vivo remains challenging and limits their further development and clinical translation. Here, we address this limitation by utilizing a gelatin-based hydrogel that incorporates the radiopaque compound 5-acrylamido-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid (AATIPA).

Multi-bond-forming, atom-economical reactions are the most efficient processes for the synthesis of complex natural products. Two vicinal exocyclic methylenes, incorporated in a heterocycle, (1) thus represent an excellent tool for the construction of heterocyclic scaffolds, since their methylenes are naturally locked in the s-cis conformation, required for a Diels–Alder reaction.
