2026 N.J. Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year drafted in 6th round by White Sox

Among a strong crop of New Jersey high-schoolers, Alex Weingartner was the first one to hear his name called at the 2026 MLB Draft. After leading St. Augustine to a Non-Public A state championship appearance, Weingartner was taken in the sixth round by the Chicago White Sox. Weingartner was the 166th overall pick, and the second selection in the sixth round. Ranked No. 159 by MLB.com ahead of the draft, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound two-way player has tremendous upside on either side of the ball.
