For over 42 long years, Radha and Krishna have been with my family, taking care of our comfort and house, and aging with us. Naturally, they deserve reduced workloads which we took care of to an extent. They deserve better living conditions too, better than the Prem Nagar slum in the neighbourhood of Irla, where they have lived and raised their two daughters. It has been slated for redevelopment.

To Mumbai, I am indebted and grateful for the energy, enthusiasm and a deep sense of engagement that it has always exuberated. This gave me reason and a sense of responsibility, since the 1970s, to do what I could towards building an equal and just environment for all.

Urban design has been traditionally understood as shaping the physical layout of cities and neighbourhoods, buildings or groups of buildings—the art of making spaces and landscapes or defining the built form.[1] This is a rather limited and outdated approach to a complex and multi-disciplinary field. The way design is understood and practised largely reinforces exclusion, segregation, isolation, and individualization in our cities.
