Learning is the most important ability and attribute of a Intelligent System. A system which acquires knowledge by experience, trial-and-error or through coaching, exhibits early traces of intelligence. This post explains how ANNs learn. In the previous post, ‘Layman’s Intro to AI’, we explored a simple analogy of how a Artificial Neural Network or ANN gains to understand the ‘knowledge weight’ of a Cat (or what we termed as the ‘catiness’).

Cater to the "market of the one" — this has always been the holy grail of marketing. Brands and marketers have always strived to understand individual consumer necessities and tried to cater to them directly through an open dialog, at scale. While this was long a pipe-dream, with the advent of deep neural networks, the current crop of machine learning algorithms, and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) research, the age-old spray and pray marketing is coming to an end.

Much has been written about the rise of AI in ad tech. Much has also been written debunking the myth of AI. The truth seems to be somewhere in the middle though. It’s important to understand that AI is a very broad term thrown around, similar to big-data. Whenever you have promising technology, the hype-cycles are bound to happen. But, it shall not be prudent to disregard the progress of AI independent of the hype-cycles.
