Macroevolutionary changes in natural selection on codon usage reflects evolution of the tRNA pool across a budding yeast subphylum

Abstract Across taxonomical domains, synonymous codons of an amino acid are found to be used at unequal frequencies within genes. This codon usage bias (CUB) is highly variable across species. Genome-wide CUB reflects a balance between adaptive and non-adaptive microevolutionary processes within a species. Variation in microevolutionary processes results in across-species variation in CUB.

Abstract Fear extinction leads to a decrease of originally acquired fear responses after the threat is no longer present. Fear extinction is adaptive and critical for organism’s survival, but deficits in extinction may lead to exaggerated fear in animals or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in humans.

Abstract Across the major taxonomical domains, synonymous codons of an amino acid are found to be used in unequal frequencies. This codon usage bias -- both in terms of the degree of bias and the identity of codons used -- is highly variable, even among closely related species. Within a species, genome-wide codon usage bias reflects a balance between adaptive and non-adaptive microevolutionary processes.
