Abstract West Nile virus (WNV), the most common mosquito-borne disease in the continental U.S., is vectored by Culex spp. mosquitoes. Since its introduction to New York State (NYS) in 1999, WNV has become endemic. NYS temperatures have risen by 0.14°C per decade since 1900, with larger increases linked to higher WNV transmission. Using surveillance and sequencing data, we find a significant correlation between rising temperatures, increased WNV genetic diversity, and higher prevalence.

Even before Covid I’ve relied on take-out for a good percentage of my meals. I don’t enjoy cooking – I find it challenging and sometimes frustrating. I dislike grocery shopping. Meal planning is tough. Add in chronic illness and periods of diet restrictions, and meal planning/grocery shopping/cooking is a set of chores that I find too overwhelming to manage. But as an environmentalist I’ve wrestled with the amount of waste produced by takeout.
