St. Louis to implement summer curfew for teens in downtown

The city of St. Louis will implement a summer curfew for teens starting on Friday. Officials announced Wednesday that from Friday through Sept. 8, those 17 and under cannot be in the Downtown and Downtown West neighborhoods from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m unless they are accompanied by an adult. The curfew will not apply to teens traveling to or from work, houses of worship or a sanctioned event.

St. Louis homicides reach 12-year low through first half of 2026

Homicides in St. Louis in the first half of 2026 are at their lowest levels since 2014. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department on Wednesdayreported 63 homicides as of June 30, compared to 71 at the same time last year. Thetotal through June is down 40% from the recent peak in 2020, when 105 people were killed on the way to a total of 262 homicides.

The budget to fund the city of St. Louis for the next 12 months is on its way to Mayor Cara Spencer. The Board of Aldermen on Friday approved the spending plan that takes effect July 1 by the narrowest of margins — 8 to 6 with one alderwoman abstaining. “I think there is a lot of discontentment within city government about the police board in particular, and their actions and the implications on our budget,” said Board President Megan Green.
