1 Introduction Although the number of new opioid prescriptions continues to decline, according to the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhsr/nhsr162-508.pdf), as of 2019, about 22.1% of US adults with chronic pain used opioids in the past 3 months, and nearly 100,000 people have a fatal overdose involving prescription opioids per year [1] Among patients whose first opioid prescription is for eight or more days, about 3% are utilizing opioids for one year or more [2, 3].

Hayden McIlroy Remembered for Enduring Impact on Campus and Community
Hayden McIlroy, an alumnus, longtime banking executive, investor and philanthropist whose support strengthened the arts and enriched the student experience, died April 19. He was 86. McIlroy's connection to the university traces back to its earliest days. In 1871, his family provided the land that would become the U of A, establishing a legacy that has remained visible across the university and broader region for more than a century.

Beard Family Gift to Expand Opportunity for Arkansas Students
University of Arkansas alumni Chip and Suzanne Beard have contributed $100,000 to the Land of Opportunity Scholarship campaign, a $200 million initiative that expands support for talented Arkansas students in unprecedented ways. The Beards’ gift will help fund annual scholarship awards beginning with the inaugural cohort of Land of Opportunity scholars in fall 2026.
