Georgia state leaders are responding after three violent incidents in the past two and half weeks on the MARTA system, including a stabbing that left 66-year-old Margaret Swan dead. In June 7 letter addressed to Interim MARTA General Manager and CEO Jonathan Hunt, Republican State Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte and Republican House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration are asking about specific steps the transit agency is taking after the violence.

DeKalb District Attorney Sherry Boston has filed a state lawsuit against a new Georgia law that turns some local elections in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett Counties to non-partisan races in 2028, including for district attorney, clerk of court, county commissioner, solicitor general and tax commissioner.

On the ballot of every Georgian voting in Tuesday’s primaries and elections are three nonpartisan state Supreme Court races. These races have seen the endorsements of former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris. “It’s gonna be about who’s gonna maintain and protect your rights and your freedoms, who’s gonna stand for the rule of law, and there are two candidates who are extraordinary,” Harris said.
