Managing to move beyond the trouble and loss of her teenage years, a young woman is getting by on an assistant’s salary at a pricey school for girls in Manhattan. Her ex-boyfriend is working local jobs and living the life of a wily thief near the Throgs Neck Bridge in the Bronx. When they cross paths after years apart, he is as consumed with her as he was in high school, and infiltrates her life with the unwitting involvement of a wealthy couple who has a daughter at her school.

I recently stumbled across the cover of the first record I ever played on. I'd joined my brother's band after he sacked his drummer (nepotism, what?!) and a few weeks later found myself on stage at the Mean Fiddler in Harlesden. After a few twists and turns, we ended up making a record in my family's garage and somehow being played by Jo Whiley on Radio 1. My brother had settled on calling the record Once Like a Spark but was struggling to find the right cover art.
