Microsoft Corp. saved $4.3 billion in taxes during its most recent fiscal year by having a large chunk of its worldwide profits in Ireland, according to the company. The $4.3 billion is a “foreign tax effect” that represents the amount by which Microsoft’s Irish profits were taxed at a lower rate than the US 21% corporate tax, according to the company’s annual report released Wednesday. That shaved 2.6 percentage points off Microsoft’s tax rate for the year.
