Does HRT Cause Cancer?

The fear around cancer and HRT is based on findings from the much flawed Women’s Health Initiative Study (WHI) that began in the 1990s. Initial data from this study suggested that taking HRT during menopause would increase a woman’s risk of not only cancer but heart disease, blood clots and stroke. It is important to note that this is not my opinion but the findings of the WHI, which was conducted from 1991 until 2005, have been redacted.

If you’re here on my site you are likely more holistically minded and because of that, you might be leaning towards bioidentical hormones as the most natural option for HRT, and you’d be right. Right now HRT (hormone replacement therapy) is really back in fashion, which is great. Far too many women have been scared that using hormones during perimenopause and menopause would inevitably give them cancer and/or worsen their cardiovascular health.

Are Supplements A Viable Alternative to HRT?

A common question for women who are not good candidates for HRT or are otherwise unsure about using hormones to help with perimenopause and menopause is this: Can I just use supplements and nutrients instead of prescription hormones to help me get through perimenopause and menopause? With all the popularity of HRT right now many women feel they must be on some form of estrogen but for a variety of reasons not every woman can or should be on hormones, but they need support as well.
