A cold start to the new year at the 46th Annual Frozen Bun Run

A small crowd at the 46th annual Rusty Porthole Bar & Grill Frozen Bun Run was enthusiastic when wakeboarders and water skiers took on the chilly 53 degree Delta waters in Bethel Island on New Year’s Day. The weather Thursday was warmer and wetter than the 2025 version of the annual event, which launches brave participants off of the Rusty Porthole restaurant’s dock to start the new year. Seeing double: Blind twins from Ohio reunite in San Rafael for new guide dog training

FOUNDED IN 1942 by Lois Merrihew and Don Donaldson, Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) was established to address the need for service dogs as wounded servicemen returned from WWII with visual impairments. The program continued over the decades to come and is now the largest guide dog school in North America. Over 16,000 guide dog teams have graduated from the organization with an alumni base spread across the United States and Canada.

People from all over the Bay Area and beyond who like to see fast, loud, earth-shaking cars run a quarter mile at over 300 mph were at Sonoma Raceway on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to watch the 37th annual Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals. There were many highlights, but top fuel drag racer Doug Kalitta on Sunday drove his Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster to his first win this season and his sixth career victory, defeating Antron Brown in his Matco Tools/Lucas Oil/Toyota dragster.
