Duke Energy has lowered its rate-increase request as the N.C. Utilities Commission studies how much it should allow power bills to increase, The company said its decision was an unusual move that followed feedback from customers and stakeholders in recent months. Duke now seeks a 9.3% average increase over two years for its Carolinas service district, which covers the western and central parts of the state. That includes raising rates 5.6% in 2027 and 3.7% in 2028. It had asked for 14.3%.
