Willoughby Park Ironrock Chardonnay 2021

A little more winemaking goes into this Chardonnay compared to the Kalgan River version. This gets plenty of solids influence with wild yeast fermentation and lees stirring. Little if any malolactic fermentation influence, so you are getting a purity of vibrant high energy fruit. Aromas of cashew and quince paste with a vanillin stone fruit influence. The palate is intense with a good fruit concentration held and focused through to its very long finish. An excellent wine.

Tar & Roses Tempranillo 2021

Beautiful medium-bodied Tempranillo captures so much about this Spanish variety when put in Australian hands. Supple red fruits fill the palate while a savoury dusty element adds poise. There’s a red cherry and raspberry nuance with a little touch of cedar too. This is immaculately crafted to capture the best from this season. Like the Sangiovese from Tar & Roses, it is so well suited to classic Mediterranean meat and pasta dishes.

Tar & Roses Central Victoria Sangiovese 2021

Here is an Australian Sangiovese that really works. It’s from Central Victoria which seems to suite the variety, showing loads of red fruits with a little raspberry dominance. It’s bright and lively with an earthy dry dusty character that makes it such a good food wine. A dry savoury finish is the key to its food compatibility.
