Rebecca Bird is an ethical multimedia journalist and experienced news editor with over 21 years of expertise across print, web and radio in both the UK and the Caribbean. She owns and edits the news platforms Anguilla Focus and Montserrat Focus.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a junior reporter at a weekly newspaper in Manchester, UK. After two years I rose to senior reporter thanks to a very supportive team.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means accurately presenting the facts of a story with impartiality, retaining a sense of humanity and being accountable.

Why did you become a journalist?

To make sure the voices of those who are fighting against social injustice are heard, and to keep the public educated and informed.
