The Muffs have a new CD due out in May. Kim Shattuck doesn’t have much to do until the record is released and the summer concert series begins, so she agreed to chat on the phone about the album and a single on Sympathy For The Record Industry. The Muffs live is widely recognized as a display of supreme entertainment.

I am watching a performance of modern dance. Can anybody even define that term anymore without dropping into the science, the belabored recall of names or the creators of specific movements that defined time in the art of dance? I’ve seen modern performances before, repeat creations, resurrected, but something always happens to magic once it’s been buried six feet under and dug up: it ossifies into wood.

Snapcase Progression Through Unlearning Victory Snapcase’s latest, Progression Through Unlearning, is 55% hard and 45% heavy. This is by far one of the best hardcore releases of the year. A strong emphasis on songwriting is evident during listening. That, as well as serious technical ability, will raise this band above many others. The disc doesn’t have any blazing guitar solos, though; that’s the only thing I can hear that is missing.
