Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Freelance work for a site where I covered the New York Giants.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Unfortunately, I have not. It may be the most sincere form of writing as you have to think about each word. It is something I need to try.

How is social media changing news?

It allows for instant analysis. You can know anything at a moment's notice. This comes with both good and bad issues.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Trent Crimm from Ted Lasso. The kindness that his character shows is something that I relate to very much.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

That you wish to tell a story that needs to be heard. Whether it impacts the world or just one person, you feel that it needs to be told.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

I know I have seen some amazing hashtags, but I cant think of any right now.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Just given a potential idea and let me see where it takes me.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

My laptop, a monitor, and my trusty notebook.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. The ability to react alongside others instantly is so cool to me. And the potential is unreal.

Who do you wish followed you?

Jonah Hill

Why did you become a journalist?

I want to do work that I feel can impact people in some way. To tell a story that people care about has led me down this path.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did not. The thought of being a journalist didn't really come to me until college.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

NY Giants free agency story. It was the first time that I felt that I was writing something that people wanted to read.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Keep working like you're still trying to make it.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Whenever you think of something that you think is good. I'm always ready to write.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Most intriguing young duos in the NFL. In a sport like football, it can take some deep thinking to approach that.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Nothing comes to mind here.

What's your favorite drink?

Apple juice. Always has been.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

With my dogs, my family, or my friends, wherever that may be.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Complex, The Ringer, Bleacher Report, NPR

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That we think we're always right. By working in sports, people think we know everything. I just want to write what I think in this field.
