1 Introduction Tissue engineering (TE) is a rapidly evolving and multidisciplinary field in regenerative medicine that aims to repair, replace, or regenerate damaged tissues and organs by integrating principles from biology, materials science, and engineering [1-3].

Abstract Dynamic covalent networks (DCN) possessing room temperature exchangeable covalent linkages are desirable for sustainable material development. In this report, a dynamic Michael addition system is designed based on carbonyl hydrazide donor and suitably activated α,β-unsaturated double bonds as acceptor, in which the formation of adduct and exchange of donors in the adduct both occur readily under catalyst-free and ambient conditions.

Utilizing the dynamic amidation and aza-Michael addition chemistry, a set of high strength, recyclable, and self-healable covalent adaptable networks (CANs) are synthesized by reacting the precursor and commercial oligoamine cross-linkers under mild temperature (25–50 °C) and solvent-free conditions. The amide linkages present in these CANs are readily hydrolyzable under mild acidic (pH = 5.3) conditions, whereas the aza-Michael adducts with secondary amines are thermally reversible.
