Denver Animal Protection is fielding more stray animal calls with fewer officers available

Denver Animal Protection is receiving nearly twice as many calls about stray animals as it did five years ago, even as the agency says it has fewer active officers available in the field and more serious animal welfare cases competing for their time. City data provided to 9NEWS shows Denver Animal Protection received 5,201 calls about stray animals in 2025, up from 2,615 in 2021.
