Brenda Fricker Tim Whitby/Getty Images Brenda Fricker, who overcame a harrowing childhood to become the first Irish actress to win an Oscar, taking the prize for her turn as the unwavering mother of Daniel Day-Lewis’ character in My Left Foot, has died. She was 81. She died Thursday night in Dublin after “a period of ill health,” her agent, Phil Belfield, announced. “We will never see her like again, and the world is lesser for the lack of her,” he said.

Albert Wolsky Jason Kempin/Getty Images Albert Wolsky, the French-born costume designer who won Oscars for All That Jazz and Bugsy and set hearts racing by dressing Olivia Newton-John in body-hugging black sharkskin pants and a leather jacket for Grease, has died. He was 95. Wolsky died Saturday at his home in the Hollywood Hills, according to a friend who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter.
Vale Mick Erwin
Mick Erwin, who won Richmond’s goalkicking in his debut season, appeared in a famous Jack Dyer tutorial, and replaced his old mentor Tom Hafey as Collingwood coach, has died. He was 82. Erwin died Saturday, April 11th 2026, his daughter Cathy told Club historian Rhett Bartlett. At Tigerland, wearing No. 21, he started off at full-forward and finished his career at full-back, with 33 senior games and 37 goals from 1965 to 1968.
