A former international and Super Rugby player was caught buying drugs when police eavesdropped on his phone. Tony Andrew Lamborn, 34, appeared in the Hastings District Court on Tuesday for possession of cocaine. He was fined $2000 by Judge Bernadette Arapere. Lamborn debuted as a professional rugby player for the Hawke's Bay Magpies in 2013 and later played for the Hurricanes and the Blues in Super Rugby.

A former local government and parliamentary candidate has been warned she could end up in prison if she does not stop harassing her neighbours. Mary Jelena O'Neill, 62, was sentenced in the Napier District Court on Thursday for a single charge of intentional damage. The offending happened in Napier, but O'Neill appeared via an audio-visual link from Dunedin, where she now lives.

Police take further court action against Mongols gang drug-dealers, gain forfeiture of $92,000 Original

Police have won a $92,000 windfall as they continue to go after the assets of Mongols gang members who are serving long prison sentences for drug dealing. They have recently gained a forfeiture order over the cash, first seized six years ago during Operation Silk, which dismantled the gang leadership and its national drug-dealing network. The $92,850 in total was seized in bundles taken from four houses in Pāpamoa and Te Puke during Operation Silk raids in 2019 and 2020.
