FREDERICKSBURG - Gillespie County is years behind in filing state-mandated financial reports - a situation that could affect the county's ability to borrow money and has resulted in $120,000 being paid to outside firms to try to fix the problem. Gillespie County Judge Daniel Jones, County Treasurer Vicki Schmidt and other local officials have yet to fully explain how the county got so far behind in filing financial reports, which are required by state law.
