Macomb mayor issues reminder about weather alerts

It’s been a stormy month in the region, and Macomb’s top elected official urged people to take it seriously when tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings are issued. Mayor Mike Inman said the outdoor weather alert sirens in Macomb are activated under two scenarios: one is for a tornado warning, the other for a severe thunderstorm warning with predicted winds of 70 miles per hour or greater.

Improvements planned for Macomb train station

Macomb is on track to make improvements to the Thomas C. Carper Amtrak Station. The improvement project will include: Painting and deep cleaning of the interior Tuckpointing of the exterior Hardwired ADA switches at the exterior doors to the waiting room Restriping of the parking lot Installation of HVAC in the waiting room “Air conditioning has been needed for many years. It gets stifling hot inside,” said city council member John Vigezzi, who once worked at the station.

Funding concerns stall adequate and equitable funding formula for Illinois universities

Illinois lawmakers this year once again talked about changing the funding formula for higher education. But like last year, they adjourned without taking any action. State Senator Mike Halpin, D-Rock Island, who is one of the sponsors of the Adequate and Equitable Public University Funding Act, said concerns remain about paying for it.
