'A very good day': Perry High School seniors pledge military service

Creativa Images - stock.adobe.com A dozen seniors at Perry High School took a major step toward military service Thursday, signing commitments to branches of the U.S. Armed Forces during the school’s annual military enlistment ceremony. Twelve students are entering service across multiple branches, including the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Army National Guard.

Popular Mexican restaurant reopens after Globe flooding

GLOBE, Ariz. — Downtown Globe is still rebuilding weeks after a September storm left devastating floods. After 48 days, La Casita Café, a popular Mexican restaurant, has reopened to a packed house. “I’ll tell you the first day we walked in there, I thought we were going to be shut down for months,” said Annie Villalobos. Fourth-generation owner of La Casita Café, which has been open since 1947.

Iowa woman thanks Sky Harbor staff, paramedics for saving her life

PHOENIX — Rachel Bakker and her family were returning home to Iowa in March when Bakker collapsed at a security checkpoint at Sky Harbor. She had suffered cardiac arrest. “I had no warning. I felt totally normal that morning,” Bakker said, who had been in Phoenix on business. “One of the officers had called on the radio for a supervisor because a passenger had passed out,” said Monty Blue, a supervisor with TSA. Blue was the first to respond.
