The idea came to me after Mark Morical, The Bulletin’s sports editor, mentioned in a staff meeting he was going to write up “What are Central Oregon’s Top 5 hikes?” I asked: What are the worst trails? The official results are in. Here, I could include a disclaimer to inoculate my list from criticism.

I use to think that the only way that Central Oregon would have a port if we would dredge Deschutes River all the way to the Columbia. Now, I think Central Oregon may get a port. An inland port doesn’t need a link to the sea. But an inland port could give Central Oregon many of the same benefits as a port on the ocean. Government officials and business leaders are talking about the idea. There has been a bill in the state Legislature. Inland ports come in many forms.
