Why do we mourn celebrity deaths?
Memories and music have many people in the region, country and world under a purple veil of mourning. Our Minnesota neighbor, Prince Rogers Nelson — simply Prince or "The Artist" to most — was found unresponsive in his Chanhassen home and production studio on April 21.Since his death, the world has poured forth gratitude and mourning for the 57-year-old musical genius. The profound affect his death has had on so many has been rivaled by few others.“I think the quote is true.
USC AD Pat Haden collapses outside athletic building
Haden reportedly collapsed outside Heritage Hall, USC’s athletics building, and was taken to an ambulance on a stretcher. Haden left Heritage Hall with paramedics, reports the Los Angeles Times. Haden has a history of medical issues. He collapsed on the sideline of a Trojans football game at Notre Dame in October of last year, and was taken to a local hospital before returning to California. Haden was also reportedly hospitalized twice in August 2014 for undisclosed reasons.
USC AD Pat Haden leaves playoff committee, cites health
IRVING, Texas — Southern California athletic director Pat Haden is stepping down from the College Football Playoff selection committee after his doctors advised him to cut back on travel. College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock announced Friday that Haden was leaving the committee and would not be replaced. The committee will have 12 members for the rest of the season. The committee is scheduled to meet in North Texas this weekend to produce its first rankings of the season.
Notre Dame vs USC: Pat Haden, Trojans AD
USC athletic director Pat Haden briefly collapsed on the sideline prior to the Trojans taking on Notre Dame Saturday night. Haden, 62, fell to a knee on the sideline and was helped to the locker room under his own power by medical staff. The Trojans said Haden had been feeling light-headed and that he was sitting up, and appeared to be fine and in stable condition while being attended to.
USC, No. 14 Notre Dame have things to prove in rivalry game
The unranked Trojans (3-2) started the season No. 8 and everything has pretty much gone downhill since then. They lost a pair of Pac-12 home games and then coach Steve Sarkisian was fired Monday after missing practice the previous day, a messy situation that left the proud program looking like it was in shambles. Interim coach Clay Helton said the coaching change gives the Trojans a chance for a fresh start — and Saturday's showdown with the Fighting Irish helps.
Clay Helton excited for 2nd chance as USC's interim coach
Until then, he plans to enjoy spending the rest of this year in charge of Southern California's storied football program. Although Helton is focused firmly on salvaging the Trojans' season, starting with Saturday's trip to Notre Dame, he'll also have an eye on his own future beyond his second stint in this interim gig. "I want to be the head coach," Helton said Tuesday after his first practice formally in charge of the Trojans (3-2, 1-2 Pac-12).
