A note from Megan (Snider) Johnson, Rick’s daughter: With broken hearts, we share that Rick Snider, beloved husband and father, passed Aug. 26, 2025. Please learn more about Rick’s life in his full obituary. I hope to more articulately talk about my dad’s life and legacy in the future, but the feelings are so raw. As a columnist myself, I have shared a few thoughts over the last two months – but trying to shape our loss into words remains overwhelming. It seems truly impossible that he’s gone.

Jefferson keeps an eye on Library of Congress

The Library of Congress across the street from the U.S. Capitol was created as a reference library for our politicians. Today, the public also uses it for research. The three buildings are grand to see with their architecture and collections. Well worth a quick walk through or a long afternoon. But if you only have a few minutes, stop by the collection of Jefferson’s personal books in the main Jefferson building.

Commanders looking at reserves in preseason start

A first impression is really a false start. The Washington Commanders open the preseason at the New England Patriots on Friday with rookies and reserves. Washington is largely resting veteran starters against the Patriots. No quarterback Jayden Daniels debuting after his NFC Rookie of the Year effort that led the Commanders to the NFC Championship. No receiver Terry McLaurin still amid a combination injury/holdout. No linebacker Von Miller leading the pass rush.
