What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote for my own publication for a few years before getting on at XXL...

Have you ever used a typewriter?

I remember not having the money for a computer as a child but having a typewriter.

How is social media changing news?

It is more immediate than ever!

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Finding and telling the stories that need to be told.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I am a huge fan of Twitter. Keep it concise -- if it sounds intriguing, I'll ask for more.

Why did you become a journalist?

I have always been in love with writing, even since a child. I grew up idolizing Hip Hop writing greats.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Develop your voice! Think of yourself as a brand...develop content that helps bolster your brand.

When's the best time to pitch you?

First thing in the morning.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

With my kids, living my best life.
