I have been teaching about women in Tanach for almost 30 years. I have taught “Eishet Chayil” many times, using it as an example of how Torah verses exist on multiple levels simultaneously. I had a lot of personal investment in this book. I really wanted it to be good. I wanted it to be serious. For many Jews, “Eishet Chayil” is among the most well-known of all biblical texts. It’s sung weekly at the Shabbat table on Friday night.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I did manual layout at a hyper-local paper after high school and began writing columns for the *Baltimore Jewish Times* in the late 90s.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Ha. Yes. I think it was a hundred years ago. An IBM Selectric with the changeable typeface.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

I have the opportunity to amplify the good works that people are doing in the Jewish world and specifically in Israel.
