Final design revealed for HS2’s Warwickshire viaduct

Final designs have been revealed for HS2’s Balsall Common Viaduct in Warwickshire. It comes after the plans were submitted to Solihull Council for approval. The plans have been drawn up by HS2’s main works contractor Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV), supported by a design joint venture of Mott MacDonald, Systra and architects Weston Williamson + Partners.

Keltbray/Costain A30 bridge lift delayed for second time

The installation of a new bridge in Cornwall has been delayed for a second time. Costain and Keltbray were originally due to carry out the bridge lift in January as part of National Highways’ A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross upgrade. However, the project was pushed back after “unsuitable ground conditions” meant it was unsafe to do the work. The replanned lift was due to take place this weekend however has again been pushed back and will now take place from 17 February.

Hammersmith Bridge steel support solution aids final stabilisation work

More than 1,000 pieces of steel have been welded together to form support frames for the final phase of the stabilisation of Hammersmith Bridge. Hammersmith Bridge has been permanently closed to all traffic since cracks widened in its cast iron pedestals in August 2020, sparking concerns that it could suffer a “catastrophic failure”. The initial repairs, being carried out by FM Conway, were due to be completed by the end of last year.
