KENOVA, W.Va. (WSAZ) – While summertime is a chance to get out of school and have fun, a program in Wayne County is helping students improve their schoolwork while having some fun, too. It also connects them with a healthy breakfast and lunch when the cafeteria is typically closed for summer. And it’s happening with behind-the-scenes Golden Apple winner Regina Williamson. She prepares nearly 700 meals a day through Ceredo-Kenova Elementary School and has been doing it for 20 years.

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Kindergarten puts students on a path to learn for life, and that means a good kindergarten teacher can make a huge difference. Putnam County is about to lose a dedicated teacher who is headed off into retirement. Before she leaves, though, Rob Johnson presented Laura Lees with our Golden Apple. She has been a kindergarten teacher at Mountain View Elementary School for 17 years and a special education teacher before that.
